What is a W-8 form and how do I complete it

The W-8 form is a legal document required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the United States. It allows foreign investors to claim special tax treaty benefits, including a reduced rate of withholding tax. Each W-8 form is effective for three years, unless your circumstances change and you’re required to submit a new form.

What happens if I don’t have a valid W-8 form on file?

Any payments credited to your International Share Trading Account may be subject to a withholding of 30% under US tax law. (Payments could be dividends or sale proceeds.)
