Transferring shares is a secure process involving multiple parties all governed by ASIC rules, policies and guidelines. To ensure a fast and seamless experience, it is critical that you check the below points before you begin your transfer. Failure to check this properly may lead to long delays and require the rework of requests.

During the share transfer process, there a five main points of progress that your application will go through.

Investing 101 Request received:

CommSec has received your transfer request .

Essential terminology CommSec checks completed:

CommSec has reviewed your request and completed checks of the internal account, accountholder and holdings

Essential terminology Existing broker / Issuer checks completed:

CommSec has submitted your transfer request to your existing broker or share registry for external checks.

Essential terminology Request completed:

Your share transfer request has been completed, any shares will be visible in the destination account overnight.

At any stage, you may see that your request shows an ‘Action required’ notification. You will receive this notification when we need your help to complete the request. We will share any steps to resolve including the relevant support team contact details.

Customer details such as full names (including salutation & middle names) and postal addresses must match EXACTLY between both the originating and destination brokers or accounts. To confirm your details, read what you need to do here before continuing.
